In the event the ground was very hard until the end of August and then some heavy downpours changed the ground condition to very soft. 

The resurfacing was delayed and delayed.  Eventually during a short dry spell one 10 ton lorry delivered tarmac but the rain came again before another delivery could be received.

The contractors then decided that it was no longer safe to deliver by lorry as there was a danger of them getting stuck because of the soft ground and the slight incline, and this would create real damage and be difficult to rescue the lorry.

The new plan was to deliver to the bottom of the driveway and then transport by dumper truck in one ton loads to the top of the cricket field and then by motorised wheelbarrows on to the Courts.  

The bulk of the resurfacing work was eventually done on Thursday 11th and Friday 12th October, the first warm dry spell after the preparation work was completed i.e. six weeks without three dry days together. 

The ground was really soft but with little prospect of it drying out any further work had to proceed. 

Inevitably, despite the contractors best efforts, the ground cut up badly in parts, notably

-where the motorised wheelbarrows were used (in the tennis area) 

-where the dumpers had to turn to position to off load the material.

-in the dumping area. 

The areas affected have been rollered and reseeded and a little  further attention may be needed.

The Courts then needed another 8/9 days to cure and finally on Thursday 25th October temporary lines were drawn.

The courts will be fully painted in the spring as not only warmth but sunlight is needed and at this time of year sunlight does not reach half the grey court.
