Report
Two new members have been welcomed to the Committee. They are David Sapwell Treasurer and Sue Simmons Junior's Representative. Our thanks go to retiring members Tony Mayell and Yvonne Bristow for work they have done for our Club The Club still lacks a Social Secretary and Mens Team Captain and there is an urgent need for members to volunteer to serve on the Committee. Please note that there has been a change in Club Regulations regarding playing times for the various categories of membership. A copy can also be found in the Club House. The Committee is concerned to ensure that our Club is run to suit the wishes of members and to help us a Questionnaire is attached for you to complete and return. Subscriptions Membership fees are due on lst April. Please complete and return the attached form to our new Treasurer, David Sapwell. Wimbledon Tickets Summer is on its way and its time to enter your name for the Club's Wimbledon ticket draw. There will be a list in the Clubhouse for you to sign. 100 Club Click here for a list of 100 Club winners. Members and friends of the Club who wish to join the 100 Club should contact Brenda Bairstow Tel: 01689 858086. Juniors Junior coaching has been arranged to run for 12 weeks on Monday evenings commencing 15 April until 15 July. Letters have been sent out to players who wish to rejoin the Club. New members are also welcome. We welcome Barry Smith our new LTA qualified coach to the Club. Junior players are reminded that they must wear identity shoe tags when playing at the Club. Any questions regarding the Juniors should be put to Junior Secretary, Sue Simmons Tel: 01689 855865. Maintenance Report The resurfacing of our two courts and installation of new perimeter fencing was completed in October. The courts will be fully painted in April/May when there will be sufficient warmth and sunlight to undertake the work satisfactorily. New court nets will also added. Regrettably new courts do not mean the end of maintenance. Indeed for a while the opposite is applicable if we are to retain a good playing surface for the long-term future. The main points I would ask for members co-operation with are:
As a responsible Club we should not encounter the other items which have been mentioned, but I will list them anyway. Bikes, skates, chewing gum, cigarettes, pets and petrol (do not re-fill the vacuum on court) will damage the surface. Surprisingly worms (ugh!) and bird droppings will damage the painted surface because when they dry out they contract and pull away the surface. If you wish to see my report on the resurfacing process please log in to the tennis web site at www.chelsfieldpark.co.uk/tennis. A work party for general maintenance has been arranged for Saturday 20 April starting at 9 a.m. when breakfast will be served. Ladies please come along and do some painting. Please contact the Maintenance Officer, Ray Hatherly Tel: 01689 855943 if you have any queries or comments. |
Match
Report - Pam Bowling
As I write this we have virtually completed the winter season of league matches. We fielded three teams in total; two ladies and one mid week mixed vets. I am delighted to say that both ladies teams finished top of their respective groups. This meant they both went on to play a semi-final. Bexley unfortunately knocked out the ladies lst team at this stage, but the 2nd team beat their semi-finalist opponents, Catford Wanderers. They went on to play a hard-fought final against Sidcup Rec and emerged as winners!
Finalists: Sidcup Rec. v Chelsfield Park Click here for other photos see Once again this coming summer we have entered teams for the North Kent League. We have two ladies teams, one mixed team and one mid week vets team We also arrange friendly matches against other clubs throughout the summer and into the autumn. Most of these will be ladies matches, but there may also be a few mixed. These friendlies are run by Rosa Dicker and Yvonne Bristow. Two mens friendlies have also been arranged. So that everyone is aware of when the courts are being used for matches and unavailable for general play, please see the list of HOME matches. A message to all the men players in the Club: We have been allowed to field a mixed team again this summer, despite having to pull out of a number of mixed matches last year due to not having enough men able to play! However, if we pull out of any matches this year I feel sure we will be banned from mixed matches in the future, which would be a great shame for those members wanting to play. If you would like to be included in the mixed matches please speak to David Burchett. Finally, my good wishes to all of you involved in any of the matches this year. May you play sportingly, but make sure you win!! Club Captain's Report Sunday 21st April at 2 pm will see our newly resurfaced courts officially opened by Peter Bairstow, Honorary Member & Past Chairman. Drinks will be provided.
